‘Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth … Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. ‘ (Matthew 5:13-14 The Message)
The aim of Christians in Education is to support all of you working in the world of education, to challenge you to be salt and light, and to inspire you as you live out your faith in contemporary culture.
To facilitate that aim, this website provides regular updates on :
News: a media synopsis of the week that was
Views: making a difference through professional dialogue
Knowledge: quality information from the knowledge economy.
You can subscribe if you would like email alerts when updates are posted – usually at the end of each week during term time. You can also subscribe to Christians in Education Weekly, an online newspaper which brings together articles, images and videos posted by Christians in Education or its partner organisations during each week.
There are links to organisations and resource sites that you might find helpful, and a listing of support groups around the country. If you would like to find a group, or start one, do get in touch via the Contact form.
In addition to the website as an information hub, Christians in Education blogs to comment on the cultural and social trends that are currently affecting education. The aim is to challenge thinking, to promote discussion and in doing so, to consider how a Christian worldview impacts on, and informs, our work in teaching and learning.
There was a reason why Jesus used the imagery of salt and light as our purpose in being here. He explained: ‘If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? …God is not a secret to be kept … I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.’ (Matthew 5:13-16 The Message)
So, welcome to Christians in Education. I hope that as we shine like lights on a hill top, those with whom we work and those whom we teach will open up to God, our generous Father.
This website and linked social media sites are managed by Gill Robins, a former Deputy Head in the Primary sector. Gill was also a leading English teacher, winning the UKLA John Downing Award in 2010 for creative and innovative approaches to the teaching of Primary English. She now works as an education consultant and writer, and worships in her local parish church in a sleepy market town in Hampshire. She has one husband, two children (married) and three books in print. More often than not, she is to be found pottering in her garden trying, with limited success, to grow things.
